Players
No, it does not have multiplayer

I checked five places that would have bragged about co-op if it existed: Steam categories, the PlayStation page ('1 player'), Xbox ('Single player'), Nintendo ('Single system (1)'), and 4Gamer's Japanese spec line. All of them say one person.
Why people remember four players
The PS1 game let extra controllers join a battle, up to four. The field was still one player. The PSP port cut the battle guests. This remaster is the PSP game, so the guest controllers did not come back. Searching '2 players' is remembering the PS1 disc, or hoping the remaster restored it. It did not.
| Version | Field | Battle |
|---|---|---|
| PS1 (2000 / 2001) | 1 player | 1 to 4 local |
| PSP (2005) | 1 | 1 |
| Remastered (2026) | 1 | 1 |
There is no online mode in those store listings either. Shared-screen co-op is the feature that is missing, not a server you can wait for. If that is a dealbreaker, the PSP versus PS1 page explains the cut, and the download page is where you would have paid.
Figures on this page were checked against the named sources on 18 October 2026. Store prices move; open the store link before you pay.
