The Switch diagonal stick bug
Updated 2026-10-18
I did not reproduce this on a console of my own. I am tracking Mikhail Madnani's hands-on from 14 October 2026 and the publisher's patch note from the 16th, and I will not write 'fixed' until one of those sources says so.
What the stick does
Push the analog stick on a diagonal and the game treats it as a horizontal or vertical input. Movement and menu aim snap to the cross. Madnani saw it on a Switch, on a native Switch 2 build, and on the Switch build running under Switch 2. He tried a Pro Controller, Joy-Con, and an 8BitDo Pro 3. PC does not do this. The PSP original does not do this. The D-pad is unaffected, which is the workaround he names.
Patch status
| Date | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 14 October 2026 | RPG Site handheld test | Bug present on both Nintendo versions. |
| 15–16 October 2026 | v2.0.0 day-one patch note | Font style (Japanese), New Game Plus titles, text fixes. No mention of the stick. |
| 18 October 2026 | Official patch note recheck | No fix confirmed in the published v2.0.0 notes. Not a fresh console retest. |
If you encounter the reported snapping, the review's workaround is the D-pad. The launch test found it on both Nintendo versions, so choosing Switch vs Switch 2 was not a workaround in that test. Absence from patch notes is not proof that today's executable still has the issue; this guide has not retested every current console build.
Other issues I am not promoting to fact
- Switch also has longer loads and lighter performance, in the same RPG Site piece.
- PC camera shake while running on a diagonal, and flaky controller detection, show up in secondary write-ups. I have not confirmed them on Steam discussions myself, so they stay in this list as unverified.
- Remastered graphics mode shows AI upscale artifacts on some movies and sprites. That is a visual complaint from the reviews, not a control bug.
